This software can’t format online magazines or picture books, unlike other services. It’s also not the best place to try to design memorable family scrapbooks or personal mementos. This is because Pressbooks focuses on just two types of publications: novels and training manuals. As such, it has features and tools that let you create a truly unique eBook. There are tons of branding options you can use to put your stamp on your work, and you can customize font, photos and transitions to add to your readers’ experience. You have to be a little patient when you use this software. In our testing, it took longer to load and process our input than any other online publishing service or downloadable application. Pressbooks makes it easy to share your work in formats like Amazon’s Kindle or CreateSpace. Overall, it’s a great publication tool for first-time eBook publishers.
A traditional eBook usually looks like a textbook chapter: It’s got an introduction, a list of sections, and a lot of text that follows a linear progression of concepts designed to be read in order. There’s usually some kind of summary conclusion at the end. This structure has worked with print for years. But it’s not a structure that translates well to the web.
If you want to write an eBook, or self-publish a hard cover, I recommend this software product. I have published 2 books so far, albeit short ones at this point, but I am just getting started. Others have commented that they cannot get support on this software, but I have had no problems getting very quick answers to two or three questions I have had. Nitin was very quick to help and respond. If you are willing to watch the provided videos, they are very good at pointing out how to do things step-by-step. The only drawback I have found is that some of the videos are mildly outdated due to changes that Amazon makes so the videos in a couple of cases are not up to speed but still provide what you need to know, or you can email and get an answer quickly. I hope Amazon will let me link my books so you know that I am not just writing to be writing; I want you to see product. https://amzn.to/2FJ36VQ & https://amzn.to/2RvTdSe are actual eBooks and hard covers available too. A Dad Remembered: Because He Couldn't and We All Know One: Happenstances with a Goofball: Engage Mouth Before Brain is the other one's title. It makes importing and converting very easy. I recommend watching the informative videos on whatever you have questions about. I have finally fulfilled a little dream of mine to be published!
If you’re publishing an e-book, it’s obvious you’re a skilled writer, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other skilled writers out there. If you have a great online resource that you want to share with your followers, include an external hyperlink in your e-book. (Let that source know, too, and hopefully they’ll promo your content to their followers.)
EMRE Publishing has linked this studio with two courses (one free and one paid) for authors who are new to multimedia development in eBooks. Jim Musgrave wants to train authors in the creative use of his studio, so he has created the Basic Creative Writing Course, which authors can take online for free. The curriculum is aimed at developing the skills necessary to create multimedia content, and when the author is ready he/she may enroll in the Advanced Multimedia Development Course for a membership fee. This course has an accompanying eText, Running with the Big Dogs: A Creator’s Guide to Using Electronic Media. Jim created the course with the goal to train authors how to develop multi-sensory eBooks. Thousands of royalty-free media are included in this curriculum, so authors may invest in the development inside the studio with a lot less worry about cost.

EMRE Publishing, LLC wants to stay ahead of its competition. This is why Jim Musgrave wanted to stay with an open source product. It’s much faster and easier to have a talented developer create an “add on” for the client than it is to lock-in the reader with proprietary code that will deprecate the user experience and cost the customer more. We are the only multimedia app publisher who allows the publisher/author to collect 100% of the cost of his/her titles once they purchase one of our publishing plans. For example, if the author wants to upgrade a present title using the studio then he/she can buy the Advanced ePub3 Production Plan for very little money.
3.  The value of the editing experience done right:  a reader of digital content in the Embellisher™ system gets to view instant revisions made over a cross-platform mobile network.  When the publisher changes something, the subscriber sees it–no lengthy waits for uploads, approvals, dis-approvals, and confusing downloads.  The corrected version instantly appears in the reader’s library, ready to read the next installment or to read the notice of a new installment to enjoy.  This saves both the creator Publisher and the reader consumers both time and money.
Why can't you just attach what you have to a landing page and be done with it? Word documents, PowerPoints, and similar templates are perfect for creating your ebook, but not for delivering it. Because these templates are editable, the contents of your ebook are too easily corrupted, distorted, or even lost when moving from your computer to the hands of your future leads. That's where PDFs come in.
You should also make your finished product as aesthetically pleasing as you can. Ebook design templates from Lucidpress get you off to a great start in that area. With different free ebook sample templates to choose from, you can pick one that best fits what your ebook is about. From there, include images, icons, graphics and more that enhance the material. People like to learn new things, and many people find it easier to learn when text is accompanied by visuals.
I have operated, promoted, edited, and funded Leaf Garden Press for several years. We've published 12 issues of a literature and arts journal and 20+ books of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. All LGP publications were designed and edited by a small volunteer staff and myself. Likewise, I help other small presses with their book design and publication through Kindle Direct Publishing, Smashwords, Lulu, and Amazon's CreateSpace. My personal publication credits include three books (not including 50+ ghostwritten books), several anthologies, and about 40-50 appearances in online and print magazines. I'm seeking opportunities to branch out and work with new clients as well as to network with other like-minded individuals that are interested in the publishing industry, especially those that prefer self-publishing and it's benefits over traditional publishing. --- Availability: I do my best to make myself available to my clients on a regular schedule of Monday-Thursday, 9AM-5PM PST. I am sometimes available to work Friday-Sunday. --- Publishing and formatting services: My specialties are print and ebook formats. I also help with the publication process. I love working with new authors. I'm extremely proficient with Amazon's CreateSpace, Kindle Direct Publishing, Smashwords, and Lulu. I may be able to help you with other platforms as well. Kindle Direct Publishing will have your ebook released on the Amazon Kindle store. Smashwords will distribute your book to Apple (iBooks), Barnes and Noble (Nook), Kobo, and many other retailers. This keeps the process simpler than trying to submit the book to each retailer individually and helps alleviate some of the overhead costs involved with certain retailers. CreateSpace and Lulu are print-on-demand services for those that want to publish their books in print formats and sell them via online retailers like Amazon and Barnes and Noble. My suggestion for publishing a book is generally going to be the following: Format the ebook for the best possible compatibility between devices by creating a version for Smashwords and a version for Kindle Direct Publishing. This high-compatibility formatting and the use of these two platforms means your book becomes available for almost any device that reads ebooks, and the ebook will appear relatively consistently regardless of the app/device being used to read it. For the print edition, I generally suggest Amazon's CreateSpace. This is the most direct route to having your print book sold via Amazon, the world's largest online retailer of books. --- Editing services: For editing and proofreading, I suggest the use of Microsoft Word's track changes features or the use of commenting/annotations for PDFs. This allows you to personally review my suggestions or changes and decide if you want to accept them. Editing and proofreading include checking sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, spelling, formatting errors, and much more. I pride myself on standing be...
Unlike blog posts, ebooks are high-commitment pieces of content because of their length, so you need to make sure you're demonstrating the value up front in a compelling way. For instance, one HubSpot ebook is titled 15 Business Blogging Mistakes & Easy Fixes with the subtitle, "How to Fix the Most Common Blogging Bloopers." The main title is both descriptive and demonstrates value in itself, but the subtitle also makes it sound like an even more interesting read.
One Administrator can oversee publishers and collect fees for use of platform. Each assigned Publisher/author can create ePub3 books, price them, and upload them into the store using Stripe payment system. All publishers/authors/readers can upload private eBooks into the studio and eReader. This is for the self-published author or teacher with many books who wants to team-up with authors or teachers of the same genre or subject area/discipline. It is also for the large company or entrepreneur who wants to turn over marketing and eBook creation to his/her authors/publishers. The licensee can run this business and collect royalties or fees as the Administrator/Owner. This installs on the server of the client with assistance of our technologist.
This studio will have the only way to develop “choose your own adventure” eBooks in multimedia format. Authors can link alternate plot lines to take readers to new levels of enjoyment. Young Adult authors can use this tool to hold fascinating conversations between characters. Children’s book authors can link animation, video and graphics to the “choices” to create an entirely new interaction based on the reader’s choices. Jim Musgrave believes that “story must be king,” so the “Insert Story” feature was a prime concern in the development of the studio. He was inspired by the popularity of the paper version of the Choose Your Own Adventure Books, and authors will enjoy using this tool to see what it can do for their imaginations!

I’ve published a dozen or so books for the Kindle platform and while it’s easy to upload the finished book and fill out the forms to make them available for sale, it’s really hard formatting the books properly, even if you use Amazon’s directions.  I picked up a copy of Ultimate eBook Creator myself a few years ago and I’ve found it to be easy to use and it’s never given me any trouble at all.  Nitin also updates Ultimate eBook Creator regularly and adds features as people request them, and all of the updates are free.

My favorite projects are newsletters and brochures, from full color to simple black and white - each one is like a puzzle, but you get to be creative in how you solve it! I also have years of experience creating booklets, flyers, magazines and marketing materials, business packages (letterhead, envelopes, business cards) invitations and forms. Please take a look at my Portfolio to see samples.
After you have a template picked out, you need to replace the template’s default images with images that fit your book. You can find free images easily using stock photo sites like Pexels, Pixabay and Unsplash and you can edit those images just as easily using a free online tool like Pixlr. (Note: Double-check the permissions and fine print when downloading images from free stock photo sites.)
Amazon recently unloaded a new version of their Kindle to the perhaps “less than eager” reading public.  With publishers losing over 3 billion dollars a year to eBook piracy, mostly due to the insecure Digital Rights Management of Amazon’s and other eBook retailer’s platforms, it makes you wonder how long publishers will keep selling their digital and print books through the giant online retailers.  But, most importantly, the reading public is changing their reading habits.  Each day, more and more readers are using whichever mobile device they have with them, so it makes having “extra” devices like the Kindle superfluous.

Kids can learn how multimedia elements can help them tell a story as they choose from the various options and make a book. Because the page count is unlimited and the options allow for multiple types of expression, kids can experiment and really demonstrate their creativity. Completed books can be posted in iBooks or Google Play Books, sent to others via email, uploaded to Dropbox, or printed to self-assess and get feedback. Book Creator is an excellent way for kids to practice their writing skills and enjoy crafting a digital book with multiple forms of expression.

We've talked before about the importance of including social sharing buttons on your marketing content. Sure, the landing page behind which you gate your ebook is a great place for these buttons, but why not also stamp them onto the pages of your ebooks as well? It makes sense, right? A potential reader might not feel comfortable sharing your ebook before they've read it and know they like the content, but while they're reading it? That's a different story.

Not really a waste of time, the reviews are good and did make me aware of these ePub creators. I used to have one that worked on my PC, most of these new ones all work from a website.  I’m still looking for the one I used to have on my PC, it could accept word or pages docs and spat out several different ePub variations. But I can’t find it again, forgot what it was called even. Thanks for adding the links.
Get writing! Here, you can approach each chapter the way you might write a long blog post -- by compartmentalizing each chapter into smaller sections or bullet points, as shown in the picture below. This helps you write simply and clearly, rather than trying to use sophisticated language to convey each point. It's the most effective way to educate readers and help them understand the new material you’re providing.
That said, there's a growing movement towards free and 'freemium' content on the web. And the quality of the content is often on a par with the books you'd part with cash for. Clearly nobody can afford to print and distribute free physical books, but in this age of tablets, smartphones and laptops the electronic book offers a fantastic, and very cheap, way to spread this content. If you do have some cash to spare, take a minute to browse our guide to the best graphic design books – you can be sure you won't be wasting your money.

I started writing in 2004. I've been in the indie publishing industry since 2010. I started working with a small group of authors to test the waters and get to know how the industry worked in the beginning. But as my knowledge grew and I began to get more experience, I knew I wanted to do this for the long-term. So I joined oDesk (now Upwork) toward the end of 2014. Since then I've worked with a plethora of authors and even small publishing houses on so many different projects. I've worked on a number of non-fiction titles and fiction titles and have done various book production services for each of my clients. Some need formatting. Some need proofreading. Some need a fresh cover design. Some need a mixture of the three. I've also done work with magazines, taking old editions and digitizing them by following their style to upload to their dedicated CMS. Number of years of experience (as of start of 2017)? eBook and paperback formatting: 5 Proofreading: 3 Copy editing: 3 Indexing: less than a year Cover design: technically 3, but I had 10 years of experience in graphic and web design before starting on covers.
